Weight Loss and Thyroid

By Matt Lee Your thyroid dictates much of your metabolism, any malfunction or disease afflicting this area may cause you to have problems in metabolism leading to a drastic problem with your weight — you may either gain weight, lose weight, or may find that losing weight is harder than usual. Those that plan diets do not take into consideration how their thyroids and metabolism may affect their weight loss program. Most experts and even the media pitch in and recommend that the best way to lose weight is cut calories. Those with a condition called hyperthyroidism suffer from an overactive thyroid leading to one having his or her metabolism skyrocket. If this is the case, then you will probably lose weight fast. This is a nice proposition for some who wish to lose weight. However, this is actually hazardous to the health. Aside from the medical difficulties such a disease brings, one will also notice weight problems as a result. These people have trouble keeping on weight and may notice weakness and bulging of the eyes. This disease may need special treatment from doctors. Hypothyroidism on the other hand works in the other direction — slowing metabolism until the body gains weight at an incredible rate. Like hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism causes a general weakness in the body. It too may need special treatment and may cause serious health problems if left unattended. While cutting calories in itself can be very hard for most people ?imagine, the people involved in life and death struggles at the supermarket regarding whether to buy that extra box of sweets, some have exactly the opposite problem. Instead of eating too much calories, which is a problem in itself, they eat too little calories instead. The problem with some is that they believe that since the experts say that they have to cut calories, cutting calories to an inordinate amount will reap greater results. Unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way. While cutting calories helps diets, consuming too little calories pushed the body into a hoard mode, the body’s metabolism slow to adapt to the lesser amount of available energy. If your body enters this mode, your body will work at such slow metabolism that losing weight becomes impossible. The technique here should be to reduce calories without the body slowing its metabolism. Only then can losing weight become easier. Another problem that can arise from decreased metabolism is that when your metabolism slows due to a drastic reduction in metabolism, and then you suddenly eat a good, hearty, calorie-filled meal, you are bound to gain more weight owing to the increased surplus of energy. This is why an imbalanced meal is highly discouraged among those that seek to lose weight. The sudden loss and increase of calories will cause an imbalance in one’s energy consumption directly affecting fat deposit. Here is a simple computation to help you get to the right amount of calories you will need per day so that you get your nutrients in the right balance. First of all, multiply your weight in kilograms by 30. If you only know your weight in pounds, divide it by 2.2 to get to its English equivalent. We divide this number by 30 because that is the number of calories you need to maintain your weight per pound of weight. For example if your weight in pounds is 150, divide it by 2.2. That will give you a figure of 68.18. This is your weight in kilograms. Multiply this by 30 and you will arrive at the amount of calories you will need per day to maintain 150 lbs. You may consult a nutritionist to help you come lose weight. In the end it all comes down to math. If you consume more that your body needs, it stores it as fat. Now is probably a good time to start studying the back of those grocery cartons. Try to keep your diet at a 40% protein, 25% fat, and 35% carbohydrate meals at 300 calories per meal. Spread out these meals in a day for optimum results. While it may be simple computation to get at numbers, do not forget the earlier mentioned fact that the body adapts to its condition. Expose it to extreme ones and you may find yourself getting results you never wanted. Consult a nutritionist for more advice. Online Dating: How to Overcome the Stress and Nerves With the First Date

By Patrick Hood-Daniel As an individual raised with little opportunity to develop social skills, I had a particularly difficult time with the dating scene. I am happily married now, but during my years of dating, I felt that it would never happen. With the many years using online dating services, I have learned many usefull ways of establishing positive initial interaction. In this article I will share with you ideas that will give you a little more ease with dating and coping with the anxiety on the first date. First, there are a few questions we must address and bring out into the open. How much should we get to know the potential date before meeting? What discussion or prefacing is required with your potential date prior to the meeting? How does this potential date feel about you, or does this person also share in this anxiety? After the rendezvous is established where will you meet to insure safety, enjoyment and relaxation? Lets dive into the first question: How much should we get to know the potential date before meeting? This question begs of the actual legitimacy of the potential date. Is this, person really genuine? What is this persons background? These questions are not as easy to answer, but we can start with the following. The method of communication is incredibly important. Phone communication although a little nerve racking, can break the ice and establish an initial understanding of who this person is. Try to avoid creating a mental image of this person as this can really increase expectations and also give the other person an unfair disadvantage (i.e. relating the voice to a physical mental image). The phone conversation can also shed light on this person’s general character. This leads to what discussions or prefacing is required. It is important to acknowledge that this place we live is very diverse and the person’s character is one of the most important attributes of desirability. Be softly direct when inquiring about his or her background without invoking the feeling that you are drilling the person which is a real “turn-off”. I have used this idea many times which turn’s out to be a really enjoyable exercise. Write down a few background questions to ask prior to calling the potential date and go from there. The conversation can take on with its own energy from there and it will be very easy to get a good feeling for the person. That is to say, if the person is not forthright, it will most likely come through in the conversation. In most cases, the other person will exhibit the same anxiety as you. Keep this in mind, as it will help your nerves a little. Being confident, honest, direct and respectful will help you and the date feel an increased level of comfort whether your on the phone, or on the first date. On this first date, make sure that you select, or mutually agree to a place that will help the date flourishes but keep the other person wanting more. Obviously, you should select a meeting place that is well lit and where there will be many eyes watching you for increased safety. However, the place that you will spend the most time should be softly lit so that most of the concentration can be focused on the content of the conversation and less on physical characteristics. More importantly, span the first date no more than that of a small snack. You can consider this a “weed-out” session. If there is chemistry during the date, he or she will leave waiting more. Conversely, if there is no chemistry, not much time was lost and not much money was spent. Remember, these important ideas to engender ease and confidence during the initial contact through online dating services. Choose a method of communication prior to the meeting that will help you determine the persons forthrightness. Understand that the other person is probably feeling the same level of anxiety to which you can offer the comfort. Finally, choose a place that demonstrates safety and allows for a short but memorable experience. Stained Teeth and Teeth Gap

By S. Wilson There are two simple ways that you can improve your smile without going to the dentist. If you have stained teeth you can use over the counter whitening systems to bleach your teeth white. The second way to improve your smile is close the gap between your teeth. You can close your gap using Teeth Effect Bands which pull your teeth together. There are a number of things that can cause the light yellow stain that covers your teeth. You can be more sensitive to staining, depending on the strength of your teeth and the enamel which is the covering over the teeth. Staining can be caused by things that you eat and drink like coffee, or tea products, soda and some heavily dyed foods like juices. Smoking can also cause stains on your teeth. It stains them with tar and also causes decay. Plaque is also naturally developed on your teeth. Plaque is bacteria that is constantly forming on teeth. Plaque is not removed by brushing alone. It can harden to form tartar also called calculus. Only a dentist can remove this tartar. You may want to seek other options if your teeth are already stained and whitening toothpaste isnt helping. You can have a dentist bleach your teeth. Having a Dentist bleach your teeth can be very expensive. There are also some new whitening systems that you can buy over the counter and use at home Another common problem is gap between your teeth. You could get braces to close your gap but it is very expensive. Fortunately, there is an alternative to close your gap called Teeth Effects from the company Teeth Gap. The bands wrap around the two teeth with a gap between them and slowly draw the teeth together. They are easy to use and you will start to notice results in only a few days. You should take care of your teeth now. They will stick with you for many years to come! Please visit http://www.teethgap.com to close your gap simply by wearing a band around your teeth. Choosing A Fat Loss Program

By Vincent Tay Many people are not sure about how to begin a fat loss program. They have many questions in mind regarding any fat loss program. There are different type of fat loss program out there ,but first of all you need to start off with setting a goal . You should lose at least 1-2 pounds per week using a fat loss program. Try to make your first goal to lose between five and ten pounds in 1 month using that fat loss program . Implementing a fat loss program is not easy, you need time and self discipline. If you are using a fat loss program that needs you to starve yourself , you may like to read this :- Are you eating the wrong kind of foods with the wrong types of calories per meal, are you also eating meals in the wrong intervals each day ? Food that you eat is very important in determine whether you are overweight or not, because this can make you overweight or not. You are getting fat because you eat the wrong food at the wrong time intervals every day. The pattern that you choose to eat your meals each day is more important than any prescription weight loss pills (which is recommended by most fat loss program). This is because your body only needs certain foods at certain intervals each day, and if you eat the wrong food at the wrong time then it won’t burn those calories — and then you start to store those calories as fat tissue in your body. If you try to starve yourself (using a low calorie diet fat loss program) to lose weight , your metabolism will find out and detect the major drop in calories and it will then Adjust themselves by burning fewer calories each day. For eg , If you are eating 3,000 calories everyday then your metabolism will adjust itself so that your body begins burning 3,000 calories everyday. So you try to starve yourself by suddenly eating 800 calories per day then your metabolism will again Adjust themselves so that your body begins to burn only 800 calories per day. That is why you always fail to lose fat when you try and starve yourself. So now you know the reason why you can eat 800 calories per day and not lose any weight .(so do not try a fat loss program that needs you to starve yourself) A good fat loss program must understand how your metabolism work…..your metabolism always burns calories based on your eating habits during the past few days — because it assumes that you will continue to eat in the same way. So what will happen if you try to give your metabolism a shock by doing something very differently — you are going to do the Opposite. You are going to eat the different types of calories and meals for more than a couple of days at a time, and you are going to lose a lot of weight by doing this. To make this work you need to Shift the types of calories eaten , and if you do this then your metabolism will burn all of the calories eaten. Then, when it finishes burning those calories it will find the nearest available fat tissue on your body and burn that too…Of course, in order for this to work you also need to eat foods that are easy to burn (in this way your metabolism will burn them entirely and then switch to burning your fat tissue after that). This is how you going to lose your weight ! (a great fat loss program) To lose fat quickly, you must be really committed and focused on your desired fat loss program. Read and find out more details about any fat loss program and choose the right fat loss program is a great way to start. Dating After 40: Are You Enjoying the Banquet of Dating?

By R.L. Morgan My friend, world class photojournalist, author, former National Geographic photographer and Academy Award-nominated director Dewitt Jones is also an entrancing speaker. His presentations are illustrated with his riveting photos as he makes his points on creativity, leadership, vision and passion. In a presentation I heard over 15 years ago, one of his phrases still reverberates: The banquet is laid, though nobody comes.* When I recently asked about him about it, he said, I use it to refer to the banquet nature/God sets before us everyday. Yet, as he points out, we are often too stuck in whatever is in front of us to step back, look around, and see the bounty of beauty before us. A banquet often involves a buffet a display of yummy food from which we choose. We are given the opportunity to not only select known favorites, but to sample items we might not normally pick. If we try the new fare, we may come back for seconds and add it to our list of delectable delights. When women tell me they havent gathered the gumption to start dating even though they want to, I think of Dewitts line: The banquet is laid, though nobody comes. The banquet is a plethora of interesting men to be met, and among them, we hope a delectable delight or two. Ideally one who will become our all-time favorite and last a lifetime. Yet many are afraid to start, settling instead on their current lives as fulfilling as they may be even though they long for a mate to share their lives and add a dimension they feel is missing. Of course, Im not suggesting that to be single is depriving you of the banquet of life. We are using the metaphor here specific to dating. Dewitt uses the phrase in the context of enjoying the beauty of nature. Im using it to encourage those who are a trifle repadacious about tapping the terrific treats of dating. If youve decided to get back into the dating scene but havent yet made the next move, think of the banquet that awaits you. Just as at a banquet, not every dish will be to your liking. Dating allows you to taste dishes you might not have tried before. Dont turn down an invitation from someone who doesnt meet 100% of your criteria. If hes 85-90% what youre looking for, at least have coffee. Even if you arent drawn to him or visa versa you can now say, Ive tried X and it isnt to my taste. But if you dont even allow yourself to try something new, how will you know? But know that perhaps one of these tastes will result in your establishing a new preference something you may not have thought youd like. I thought Id only want someone with a certain type of job. But Ive become fond of someone who works in an industry that wouldnt have been on my desired list. So get out your plate and be willing to go through the banquet line with an attitude of openness and inquisitiveness. You never know what delicious bounty you will discover. * This loosely references Luke 14:23 from the Bible. R.L. An Article for the Thinking Person

By Kevin Hinton Times have changed. We have evolved mentally. It is not fully realised that human health is also subject to the same rules of development as those applying to biological organisms. We now know that diseases do not come out of thin air accidentally. Diseases are not caused by the displeasure of a God. Diseases develop and evolve from what happens in our lifestyle. Our health will remain stable once it has become fairly established, as long as the environmental conditions remain favourable. If the temperature, humidity, air quality, food supply and other essential factors are present, we will, barring accidents, enjoy normal good health from birth to death. But, if factors in our environment change for better or worse, there will be variations in our level of health. Health must be built from the conditions of our environment. Health cannot be bought. All diseases arise as a result of changes in our environment. When a living organism is supplied with its normal biological requirements in a favourable environment it enjoys good health. It is therefore natural to be healthy. But on the other hand, if our normal biological requirements are not supplied, or if our environment is unfavourable in some way, it is also natural that we should become unhealthy or sick. We can see that health evolves and disease also evolves. The late Dr. Herbert M. Shelton, the founder of Natural Hygiene, has said that healing is also a process of evolution, just as birth, growth and development are - Neither medicines, water, food, exercise nor anything else external to the organism have any healing power. The same power that brought man in health, keeps him in health, and it alone can restore him to health. That power called metabolism, resides in man and nowhere else in nature. The same power of metabolism and other processes of life are in operation in disease as in health. In disease, no new or extra vital power is super added to the processes of life. All diseases are evolved out of our lifestyle. Health is also evolved out of our lifestyle. The restoration to health, which we call the cure of disease is also evolved out of those changes in our lifestyle which remove the causes of disease and which provide the body with its normal biological requirements. Makes sense to me how about you? Kevin Hinton has been teaching the art of Natural Living and Natural Healing for over 25 years. He is recognized as Australia’s leading health educator. Resolving Children’s Separation Anxiety

By James Krehbiel When I was working as an elementary school counselor, I had a parent who brought her second grader to me due to an excessive fear of attending school. The mother would drive the youngster to school because the child was afraid to take the school bus and dreaded attending class. The child would ask to leave class frequently due to stomach aches and would be sent to the nurses office. After visiting the nurse, the child would get on the phone and plead with her mother to come to the school and take her home. Frequently, the mother would feel sorry for her daughter and consent to pick her up from school and take her home for the day. Then the process of fear and anticipatory anxiety would cycle as the child reluctantly prepared for the next day of school. What I have described is not an uncommon scenario. Often, children experience separation anxiety during the process of facing everyday tasks. The pattern starts with the child avoiding a task involving self-reliance and culminates with the child developing increased fear and anxiety due to persistent detachment from the event. A cycle of separation anxiety emerges out of the childs need to cling dependently to a parent and resist age-appropriate self-directed behavior. Like the second grader who finally made it to my office for assistance, most children experiencing separation anxiety complain of somatic symptoms. Their emotional conflict gets played out as physical ailments such as headaches, stomach aches, heart-palpitations, sweating, and labored breathing which creates hyperventilation. These conversion symptoms will then become the primary focus for the child and/or parent, and will be used as an excuse for avoiding specific socially appropriate behaviors. The key to managing separation anxiety involves changing the interactional pattern for the child and family. What are some factors that intensify the problem of separation anxiety and what can be done about it? Anxious, enabling adults promote dependent children. Never show that you are afraid for your children when they are placed into new responsibilities. If you take your child to daycare, drop him off and leave promptly! If your child displays fear about another familiar adult touching or holding him, back off and give your child an opportunity to get acclimated. If your child calls home because she is school phobic, let the school handle the problem without interference. Couples who have a strained relationship will often triangulate with their child. This means that one partner may use the child to meet her own needs. I have counseled couples whose relationship was so impaired that a child was permitted to sleep in the parents bed as a general routine. A parent will excuse this behavior, devoid of appropriate boundaries, as normal nurturing. In divorce situations, a parent may dependently cling to a child as a way of assuaging guild or calming psychic pain. The parent may also use the child as a pawn in the nasty game of manipulation directed toward the ex-partner. This pattern creates dependency and conflict within the child. Separation anxiety is typically the byproduct of a family system where the parents are overly-protective, anxious, and needy. They are continuously worried or fearful for their children. They protect them from new experiences, frustration, and pain. They are scared to let their children feel afraid or experience disappointment and mistakes. In the process of trying to keep them out of harms way, they compound the problem by actually placing their children in greater emotional jeopardy. Unknowingly, they teach their children that people and life are not to be trusted and that their children need to be protected by their parents. Here are some ideas on what can be done to alter the pattern of separation anxiety: Permit your children to launch out and experience new adventures and activities. Dont let your childrens fear keep you from nudging them into the new experiences. Risk-taking is an important quality in the process of developing independence and confidence. Dont let your children off the hook when they have misbehaved. Let them experience the logical consequences of their actions. Let your children learn through failure, mistakes, and disappointment. Trying to protect your children from the inevitability of lifes imperfections will make them feel more incompetent. Never use your kids to meet your own emotional needs. They will learn to resent it and will feel trapped by their need to support you. Be firm about your limits when it comes to children managing their anxiety. Dont rescue them from moving forward in spite of fear no matter how difficult it may be for you to observe their struggles. Dont let anxious children pick up cues that you are fearful for them. Maintain a certain degree of detachment when your children experience psychological pain. Dont get hooked into your childrens temper tantrums. Remove yourself from their negative behavior - it will eventually diminish. Parents may need counseling assistance in order to learn new ways of responding to a child who uses fear and anger as a method of avoiding social contact. For parents, changing interactional patterns will take time, patience and determination. At first, you can expect a counter-reaction from your child. He will bulk at the changes that you are trying to establish by intensifying his sense of helplessness. Stay firm and consistent and your child will eventually get on board. Remember that the goal of parenting is to develop children who are ultimately self-confident and independent. James P. A Useful Check List when Considering a Storage Facility

By Aaron Brooks Self-storage is a popular option with people who are moving, expanding, or are collectors. Long term lease of self-storage benefits those who want to store things that are too large or too many to keep at home or in the office and yet valuable enough to retain and not give away. Once you have decided that a storage unit is essential to your smooth function you need to make up your mind whether you would like self-storage or pick up and delivery storage. Use a check list like the one we have designed when considering a storage unit: 1. Determine how far the unit is from where you are and whether the roads are accessible even in bad weather. Also check out whether the area is prone to flooding. 2. Find out whether the self-storage company offers any discounts and whether they offer free pick up of items. 3. Make a list of the number and size of things you wish to store and then check out the various sizes of units on offer. Choose one that will accommodate your things comfortably. Also consider whether in the near future you may be adding many more things to the unit. If yes, then opt for a larger unit. 4. Be sure to check the facility at least twice. Determine whether the units are clean and whether the surroundings show any signs of rat droppings or insects like white ants or cockroaches. 5. Ask about security arrangements. Find out whether the facility has 24 hr guards, surveillance cameras, inspections, smoke detectors, or alarms installed. 6. Find out whether the lock and keys will be provided or whether you will need to bring your own. 7. Find out about insuring your things and also whether the facility is maintained in accordance with rules and regulations of safety. 8. Find out whether you will have 24/7 access or whether they facility will charge you for operating your unit at inconvenient times. 9. Many units have climate control find out as much as you can about whether the unit has climate control and about humidity control. 10. Be sure to ask whether they have had any break ins . 11. Ask for references from users and do check them out. As a user it is up to you to ensure that your things remain safe. So, before signing a lease or making payment ask to read the contract and check online whether there are any complaints about the company or negative comments. Sites which give information are: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/movers/storage_lockers.html and www.complaints.com/directory/2005/april/6/12.htm . Be a knowledgeable person and make the effort to determine how reliable the companies are and do a comparison shopping before choosing a service. Reap the benefits of self-storage but protect your interests. White Sun (The Paths of Reincarnation)

By Teow Aun Chew The setting sun here is the rising sun elsewhere. The world is round, and if we think we are ahead of others, we are actually behind many others. We are constantly creating new causes from the effects until we become helpless and confused in this universal turbulence of cause and effect. The vicious cycle is also called karma as suffering begets confusion; confusion begets karma; karma begets suffering and never ending story. There are four holy ways and six conditions of the existence of sentient beings. The four holy ways are Buddha, Bodhisattvas, Pratyeka Buddha and Sravakas. The six conditions of rebirth are deva, human, asura demon, animals, hungry ghosts and ghosts in hell. These six rebirths dwell in three realms: Realm of Desire, Realm of Form and Realm of Formless. 1] The Realm of Desire is divided into a) Three Upper Ways and b) Three Lower Ways. a] Three Upper Ways Those who performed good deeds but without improving his or her shortcomings such as hatred or ignorance will be reincarnated as Asura Demon. This is the inferior class of goodness which has good karma but without virtue. The second is the middle class of goodness where it will be a return to human life. The upper class of goodness is rewarded with the deva life (deity), who will dwell in the six heavens of the realm of desire. b] Three Lower Ways These are hells, animals and hungry ghosts. There are central hells, adjacent hells and isolated hells. Central hells have eight hot hells and eight cold hells. The terms used for these hells are Arbuda, Nirarbuda, Atata, Apapa and Huhuva with different degree of suffering and punishment. The adjacent hells have sixteen inferior cells next to each hot hell. Isolated hells are beyond words to describe the suffering and have no chance of reincarnation until the end of time. Full description can be found in my website under the link Journey to the Underworld. The Animals Our eyes can see this world and is classified into four different types. They are viviparous, oviparous, insect and creature of water. The Hungry Ghosts This is a very pitiful ghost who has a very narrow throat and big belly with a ghostly figure. Any food that they come across and want to eat will turn into burning charcoal where they cannot eat and is always hungry looking for food. 2] The Realm of Form There are eighteen levels of heavens. 3] The Realm of Formless There are four levels of heavens. These heavens are not true eternal heaven and are sometimes called lower heaven or middle heaven. It is also called The Spiritual World. In these heavens, even though there is enjoyment of the reward, they still belong to part of the cycle of reincarnation and do not belong to eternal heaven. Cultivators of different paths may easily reach these heavens but it is very difficult to reach eternal heaven which has no more reincarnation and the end of all sufferings. The Buddhist scripture says: There is no peace in the three realms. Just like a burning house, filled with suffering and fear, there are also endless flame of birth, growing old, illness and death. Buddha said: We inherited our karma. If we want to know about our past lives, we can simply learn about them from what situations we encounter in this life. If we want to know about the conditions of our future lives, we can learn about them from what we have done in this life. All changes of cause and effect come from the activities in our present daily life. Our fate is of our creation and it centered in our heart and depends upon our inner intentions, attitude and external deeds. In the teaching of Tao, it is said: Our intentions from our heart formed our attitudes. Our attitudes formed our behavior, our behavior formed our habits, our habits formed our character, and our character formed our fate. Author: T.A Chew T.A Chew, a Tao practitioner, was advised that the first step to end the cycle of reincarnation is to be initiated with Tao. He did so in 1995 and since then he has been shown the way to eternal heaven. Realizing that there are heavens above heavens, what he wanted is eternal heaven.
